On December 6, 2023, FL-based Mercon Coffee Corporation (“Mercon”) and 10 affiliated debtors (collectively, the "debtors") filed chapter 11 cases in the Southern District of New York (Judge Wiles).*
Mercon is a vertically integrated coffee company involved in various aspects of the coffee supply chain. Per its website, Mercon’s business lines include sourcing and sales, export operations, nursery, farming, and specialty coffee; it declared itself to be the pioneer of coffee-specific farming financing; in ‘19, it became the first “coffee-only” company to close a $450mm sustainability-linked senior secured revolving credit facility.
